I keep my homemade Planting Guide taped to the back of the lid of my seed box. It is seriously one of the most used pieces of paperwork I have for the garden.
It includes the distance the seeds need to be planted from each other, how deep, the germination temperature, when to start and transplant, plus other bits of info that you always need when you’re seeding. And unlike a lot of other guides, it includes the Square Foot Gardening spacing, which I use often!

How can I download the free copy? (I did subscribed to the newsletter.)
Thank you!
Hi Teresa! Once you subscribe, you should get a confirmation email from MailChimp with the subject line: “ReSprout: Please Confirm Subscription”. Click on the link in that email and it will take you to a page on MailChimp that asks you to confirm. (Say yes, obviously, LOL.) Then you will be officially subscribed! After that, you should get the “Welcome” email within 15 minutes of that with the subject line “Your Planting Guide Download.” Thanks! Let me know how it goes!
Thank you so much! This is such a great resource & incredibly handy to have the information all in one place. I have it printed and in my garden planning binder.
Oh, that makes me so happy Janet! I’d love to hear more about this binder!? I’m such an organization nerd. 🤓❤️
Fantastic PDF! It’s so helpful and answers every question. Thank you for putting this together and making it a free download 🙂
I’m so glad it helped, Shamma! I know, myself, I can never remember all this stuff. I go crazy googling it every time I go to seed something.
Thank you very much. I hope I can edit that guide or find information about Cupressaecae in it!
Is this for a specific zone?
Hi Amy! It’s adjustable based on your frost date, so the seeding dates are X weeks before your last frost for example. Obviously the last frost for Georgia will be different than Alaska!
I love lists and this PDF helps so much.! I have been growing flowers and other ornamentals in my yard for years. This year I have tried growing food and am loving it so much!! Love all your information on all your sites. You have inspired me to look at my yard in a whole new way. I realize now how much room I have if I just plan it all out. Thanks for sharing.
I am a list nut too! Can you tell. 😉 You know, I always think I have a small yard and then EVERY YEAR, I find another spot to cram some more plants in, so you might be surprised how much you can get in there!
Thank you for the pdf list in the top of my seed box 🙂
Right?? Isn’t that THE BEST PLACE for it? OMG I don’t know what I did without it before.
Thank you ! I am including it with a Christmas present for my son in law of seeds and a seed storage box!
Oh that’s so nice to hear! I hope he enjoys it!
Great sheet that is full of information so that I do not have to keep looking up! And very handy to keep w my seeds.
Thank you! Thank you!
Thank you J! That’s exactly why I finally made it. Such a pain to look it up every time I planted!
Didnt get an email for pdf after subscribing. 🙁
Hi Tony, sorry about that! The (supposedly!) automatic email system seems to be on the fritz. A copy should be coming your way!
Great tool for my garden planning! Thank you very much! It’s really appreciated.
I’m so glad you like it, Gary! 😍
I’ve been gardening for more than a few years and have accumulated a fair amount of info on the subject. I just recently downloaded the seeding/planting chart from this site and it pretty well coincides with the information I’ve been using for years in getting my seeds and plants planted in a timely fashion. I’ve printed the chart and have found a place for it in my garden log so as to have it handy for easy and quick reference.
So glad you’re enjoying Dick! I could never remember everything and sometimes the seed packets didn’t always have the best info, so has been a lifesaver for me, personally.
My “Recycled” garden is all in 18 gallon totes & other nice sized containers, including old dishwashers. Most of the totes are up on recycled metal chairs so I don’t have to stoop down for too long for tending to things. All of my “recycled” items I found in my neighborhood just sitting there for the taking. My biggest success has been Sweet Potatoes by just replanting the smallest from the harvest. In NE Florida I’ve managed to get two harvests in a year.
Looking forward to learning new skills for gardening witb Resprout!
I’ve had the same experience! Some of my favorite gardening items I found on the curb. I have huge sheets of glass shower doors I’ve used for cold frames. Something like that would cost tons of money normally, but people are just leaving it on the side of the road! It’s definitely worthwhile to have a pickup truck if you like to pickup crazy big things like that though. (And a willing helper.) 😉
Thank you so much for this very useful guide! I live in the tropics so I will need to adapt it but it will help me tremendously.
So glad to know it can help even though we’re in such different climates! Happy gardening! 🙂
